I added this video because I think it actually brings up some very important issues that must be addressed. I first saw this video presented in a marketing club meeting and i thought it was hilarious, however I was a little surprised to find out that it was heavily protested based on a factor that i didn't even notice was in the commercial. The problem is many people found it offensive because the masked wrestler is wearing the Mexican flag as a cape which is very offensive to them. This shows that when your marketing or doing business you have to consider all the factors all the groups or you could wind up doing a lot of damage. I think this is particularly important for people marketing in the US because we are so diversified that there are many different cultures present that view things in very different ways.

Know your market
Creative adds
I thought just thought this was a creative and fun add, which actually ends up not being for the product that you think its going to be for.
Product Placement
VS
I wanted to take a look at both these product placements, which i view as an effective form of buzz marketing, because one is very forward and one is very subtle. I know some people actually criticised the forward product placement from I robot, but i think that it actually worked because, it got people to talk about it which was the goal in the first place. Also Converse had a special shoe made just for the movie ( one with leather rather then canvas ) and it sold out. The placement from Casino Royal is very subtle so subtle in fact that i didn't even know it was there even tho it was saying their brand of watch was better then Rolex it quickly left my mind.
Problems with hype
I selected this trailer to raise some issues about the problems that can occur from over hype of a product. The problem i see with hype is it can get out of control to where one of the 5 gaps occur and the customer has unrealistic expectations. I didn't see this movie right when it came out and all i from everyone was how good it was, and how it was the best kong fu movie that had ever seen. So when i finally went to see it I had this great expectation, but was sadly let down as i ended hating the move. I think it was because i expected too much and if I had not heard all that hype I might have actually liked it. So this is my warning about creating hype but making sure theres not too much.

Target market
Market one thing, to sale another.
I thought this was a particularly good commercial because It markets the most profitable area of HP's company (printers, more specifically the inc jets they sale for the printers) in a fun way. The consumer sees the person in the commercial having fun and sees how easy it is, and they want to obtain that as well. Also they use the phrase " You are your own photo opportunity" and the ad campaign is "HP you" which try's to make the ad a little more personal.
But the real trick here is that hp doesn't really want you to buy the printer. They want you to buy their inc cartridges afer you buy the printer. The fact that HP is marketing their printers is smart because their actually trying to sale their Inc cartridges which is their high profit margin item. Marketing the printer for photos is a great move because it uses a lot of inc which means more cartridge sales and higher profits for HP.

Old school
Changing it up
I like both these commercials because they differ from the usual pace of commercials in their markets which is good because it counters the problem of desensitization that can occur from over exposure to the same adds again and again.
From bad to good
The problem was that when EA released a Tiger Woods video game they didn't catch a bug that allowed him to walk on water and hit the ball from that point where it landed. So their marketing response to this bug was this commercial.

The movies
I like this trailer alot because it's got the stereotype of what a movie trailer should be and yet its completely different from all the others.
Also a comedian had a few comments on how this voice can make things sound in the video below.
Real vs Unreal
I found this commercial very interesting because I think its trying to target the emotions that young girls are feeling trying to live up to the standards that they see in magazines or older women who are feeling that or felt that before.
On the flip side some feel that marketing natural isn't always they way to go.....
Good or bad thing?
This commercial seems really weird to me because you start to think that maybe its a good thing and then it just ends on a negative note and all interest is gone. I get that its supposed to be funny, but i don't think it was executed very well.
Pull it off
I really like this new add from PAM, mainly because it reminds me of my moms cooking.... and secondly because i think its a really smart way they say "PAM helps you pull it off" as it takes on both the literal and a metaphorical meaning.
Is this legal?
Was just wondering if this form of advertising is legal.
Who exactly is doing these taste test?
